With only two remaining purebred Suffolk Punch horses left in New Zealand the race is on to save their lineage internationally
Jackson and Calendula are a loving couple who represent the last remaining purebred Suffolk Punch horses left in New Zealand. They represent a link to the past and to the future, not only for New Zealand, but worldwide with their genetics. Worldwide Suffolk Punch horses are dwindling in numbers, including that of their homeland, genetic vitality is needed to support and grow their numbers and Jackson and Calendula play a key role in this. Initial consults with one of Australasia's leading equine reproduction specialists has given an avenue to ensuring that Jackson and Calendula's genetics can and will be shared globally through semen collection from Jackson and embryo transfer from Calendula.
How does this work?
Semen will be collected from Jackson and then frozen for shipping internationally. Initial test have shown his semen to be of good quality.
Embryo's once fertilized will be taken from Calendula and placed in recipient mares to carry the foals, meaning that multiple foals could be produced from the mare each year!
Due to age, time is against these magnificent examples of a Suffolk Punch.
