Scenographic Institute Aotearoa aims to support, grow and advocate for scenography in the independent arts sector.
Wellington
Production values in Wellington performing arts have weakened over the past fifteen years.
We are seeing much less risk taking and innovation in the staging of our theatrical ideas.
Scenographers are increasingly working in isolation from one another, there is less sharing of resources and ideas. There is an obvious gap in the infrastructure of independent theatre in Wellington and this is a very achievable and necessary addition to that infrastructure.
We see a need for greater transparency and collaboration in what we are making and why. We believe that in providing a high functioning workshop and hub for local scenographers we will gain clarity around who we are, putting ourselves in a position to drive greater quality in scenographic development in Wellington. Scenographic Institute Aotearoa will provide the functionality of a workshop as well as being a research and development studio enabling our artists to produce world class work.
This money is the amount spent so far getting us up and running and will reimburse Glenn Ashworth and Nick Zwart. Anything beyond our goal will be used to grow our resources.
