    Kia ora. Hello dear friend.

    Lucy’s getting ready to fly.

    Auckland. Los Angeles. Calgary.

    Wednesday 16 November. Wow 😮✈️😄

Then meeting her Lake Louise crew and the adventure really kicks off.

Only a month of school left.

    Ever.

(Someone please hold my hand so I don’t fall over!)

Lucy couldn’t have made it this far on her huge fundraising epic adventure without your support.

As a thank you, feel free to listen to the latest composition Lucy created this year as part of her class 12 (year 13) Music assessment.

    Snow Dreaming - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FPmUYdET3nLks9t7nyuB0D3GL-t-1BGm/view?usp=drivesdk

(Please don’t share this version as it’s not complete to the level Lucy would like it)

Feel free to enjoy the music and vocals all performed by Lucy, along with her learning skills in producing the track with our amazing friend Phil Riley.

Thank you very much for your kindness, generosity and support.

Kia ora kind and generous people who’ve supported Lucy’s efforts thus far to reach her Canada snowboard instructing goal ♥️🙏🏼🤩🙏🏼♥️

Lucy’s been working really hard at her regular Saturday job at Mitre 10 Mega Petone, babysitting and cleaning jobs - slowly building the funds for EA Snowboarding adventures in Lake Louise Canada.

(Next efforts include a Wellington-based movie night fundraiser - see details below.)

Flights have been booked and she takes off in mid November for Calgary and the start of it all! Wahoo!

Along with the above variety of jobs, Lucy is also completing her final year of school studies - level 3 NZCSE, NCEA equivalent - including creating a 10,000 word written component for the practical Coast to Coast event she successfully completed back in April.

In September Lucy will be delivering the final aspect of her class 12 project to an auditorium full of parents, teachers, peers and community - the oral assessment. Wow 🤩.

(All this as well as the usual - and many! - household/family expectations!! 😅)

Lucy’s extremely diligent and has a remarkable work ethic and integrity. Amazing to behold in an 18 year old.

Next update will feature more of that progress - and hopefully offer you a pre-release recording of Lucy’s latest piano & vocals composition… 🎹 🎶 🎤

    MOVIE NIGHT INFO:

Spectacular Russian fudge and my world-famous-in-Korokoro homemade, fruit-tea-inspired Kombucha will be flowing freely to those attending Lucy’s fundraiser movie night on WEDNESDAY 3rd AUGUST @ 5:45pm.

BULLET TRAIN - Brad Pitt & Sandra Bullock quirky madness - what’s not to like? At Lighthouse Petone. Tickets $25.

Awesome adult and older teen evening out.

Come a little earlier to enjoy the fudge and kombucha and more nibblies ☺️.

    FB event link: fb://event/?id=710211540325691

    Contact Lucy for tickets.

If you can’t come, consider contacting Lucy and making a donation in lieu of your presence - lucy@glensorbest.family.

Invite any Wellington based friends or family to attend. We are hoping for 100 people!

Kia ora kind people. I hope your summer or winter is flowing well as we curve around the middle part of the year.

Here in wintry Wellington it’s wonderful to have a little heart warming news and Lucy’s helped with that. She was featured in this week’s Hutt News - pity our copy never even made it to our letterbox! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ Luckily a friend let us know 🤩.

Well done Lucy. Your story will surely be a source of inspiration and pleasure for many local people.

In two months Lucy’s class 12 project will be completed when she stands up on stage and presents her journey to an audience of teachers, parents, peers and others connected to this year’s class 12 (year 13).

For now she’s been helping out other class 12 mates who are working towards completing the practical aspects of their class 12 project - lots of amazing dreams being created and reached in this classroom of 17/18 year olds amidst their usual school work.

Let me know if you’d be interested to attend Lucy’s Lower Hutt presentation on either Friday 9th (informal) or Saturday 10th (on stage) September (both during the daytime).

Thank you again for your support of these adventures. Wishing you a fabulous day ahead.

    Arohanui, Sarah & Lucy

Kia ora generous donors! Here are two videos of Lucy's Coast to Coast event that you kindly supported (BTW thanks to you, Lucy's well on the way to having the funds for her next adventure - snowboard instructor training & internship in Canada!).

Check out the full or mini version showing Lucy running, swimming, kayaking & biking her way from the west to the east coast of the North Island of NZ - Titahi Bay (Wellington) to Tora (Wairarapa) on 18th and 19th April 2022 - just 2 days after she turned 18 years old. 140km. Wow!

You'll see Lucy's journey captured in photos and short videos - showing the highs and struggles. You'll get a sense of the magical two days we all spent helping this motivated young woman achieving this dream (and begin reaching for the next one!)

Thank you again VERY MUCH for your enthusiasm for Lucy's adventure.

  • Lucy smashed it! 🏃‍♀️ 🏊‍♀️ 🛶 🚴‍♀️ 🚵‍♂️

Last Monday and Tuesday were truly epic days for Lucy and her team of supporters.

Huge thank you to Cheryl, Annemieke, Kahu, Shaun & Jonty, Joan & Peter, Uncle Bob, Lisa, Lena and the biggest shout out to super school supervisor, awesome adventurer and fabulous friend, Mario.

And the incredible incentive created by everyone of you who donated or offered messages of encouragement for Lucy. You all made this happen!

Photos and videos are being gathered and trawled through and a video will be forthcoming to give you a taste of that amazing 30 hours 🤩

Lucy did so well, going hard for 6.5 hours each day to complete the nearly 150km from coast to coast.

She was an inspiration to behold - especially the massive slog of steep, windy hill roads to the final coast run 😅

    Magic.

Thank you everyone, more adventures await!

  • 2 days: Coast to Coast on the road to Canada! Ngā mihi nui 🙏🏼

Lucy’s epic coast to coast adventure is all set to kick off at 9am Monday 18th April from Onehunga Bay at Whitireia Park, Porirua.

A quick hurrah kick off with Mum & Dad and a short warm up run with besty Lisa will take Lucy to the water’s edge opposite Paremata railway station.

Swimming 500m in a reasonable current across towards Mana bridge will be a shorter swim than she has been training, yet the strong currents the area is renowned for may make it tougher.

Lucy’s good friends Annemieke and Kahu will be supporting her safety by kayaking alongside.

Lucy’s “Mama”, Cheryl, and Lucy’s Class 12 project supervisor, Mario, will be checking from the Paremata shore that the swim-kayak transition goes to plan. While Kahu and Annemieke continue on-water safety as Lucy solo kayaks across Pāuatahanui Inlet to Motukaraka Point.

A towel down and quick break before jumping on her road bike, Lucy will cycle east to Moonshine Hill Rd (note the word “hill!”) and onwards to Poet’s Park, Upper Hutt. Wonderful cousin Shaun is driving to support this leg of the journey. Kia ora e hoa!

The last push for Monday is mountain biking over the Remutaka Rail Trail, over the incline with Dad (on his, cough!, e-bike) to finish the day at Cross Creek, South Featherston.

Mum & Lisa will hopefully have pitched a basic wee camp and have some kai ready at Cross Creek. Sleep time on Farmer Grant’s land - thanks so much for hooking that up Mario 🙏🏼

    TUESDAY 😅

Uncle Bob will heroically arise at sparrow’s fart (aka stupid o’clock) and be at Lake Wairarapa ready to wind-block Lucy as she kayaks across notorious wind tunnel that is Lake Wairarapa, after an early morning run to water’s edge.

    Wow 🤩

    Then…

Back on the road bike and pedalling for 67km or so eastwards through Martinborough to Tora coast, running the final few kms to the ocean. Mario will be driving support and Mum, Dad & Lisa will be waving pom poms at the finish line 😁

    Holy Heck🤯🤯🤯

    Oh and it’s Lucy’s 18th birthday today (Saturday) 😉🎂🥳

    All go❣️

Next stop, Class 12 project presentations and many preparations to reach Lucy’s dream Internship Snowboard Instructor training in Canada 🇨🇦

Thinking of you, newly 18 year old niece!! I hope all goes so well to plan. What an achievement this will be. You deserve lots of accolades!! Hey you have similar risky goals to Great Grandma Olds, except she was 60+ when she started!!

      Lots of love

  • TWO days now, instead of three, to complete the coast to coast!

      14 April 2022

    Kia ora!

Lucy’s decided to complete the nearly 150km 5-discipline coast to coast epic adventure in only TWO days instead of giving herself three days to journey it. Wow!! She will be self-propelling herself about 70km each day (I feel tired just thinking about it!) and camping now over the Remutaka ranges near Featherston on Monday night. She’s planning to reach Tora coastline in the afternoon of Tuesday 19th April.

We have a fabulous support crew getting prepped to help ensure Lucy’s safety along this multi-terrain adventure.

Lucy’s last day of training was today. A mere FIVE HOUR cycle ride to complete the 9 weeks of intense training. Hurrah for fine weather finally as many training sessions have been really miserable to complete in the pouring rain and whipping wind.

Here’s an image of Lucy’s Strava cycle route-capture from today. She’s the current local legend on one of the segments!

Now it’s a couple of days to rest, carb up and iron out details.

Oh and she turns 18 on Saturday ;-).

Thank you again for your kind and generous support. Feel free to share this link with others you think may feel inspired by this young women’s commitment to reaching for her dreams!

  • 8 days to go. Off for a casual 4 hour ride!?!

      10 April 2022
    Main image

We checked out the Motukaraka Point landing where Lucy will end her kayak across the Pāuatahanui Inlet. Then off she went on her bike to cycle home - and more - to complete a lovely Sunday afternoon 4 hour bike ride. Whew!

Next job is working out what support is needed during the 3 day event and matching those who've offered to help with what would be helpful: Check point water-swappers, route drivers, gear transporters, kai offerers, camping buddies - and seeing who wants to join Lucy for a leg or two.

Ngā mihi nui, from Lucy & Sarah xx

  • Lucy’s Coast to Coast route

      9 April 2022
    Main image

Starting Monday 18th April, Lucy will embark on the biggest physical challenge of her life. Her self-created coast to coast event, as part of her class 12 project (for final year at school).

    It’ll go like this…

She’ll start at the north-western side of Whitireia Park, Titahi Bay, Wellington and run to the eastern edge ready to swim across the inlet to Paremata. From there she will paddle a kayak (very kindly loaned by Ross Mitchell and stored at Paul Kirby’s Petone house for training 🙏🏼) across the Pāuatahanui inlet to Motukaraka Point. Then onto a road bike and powering many kms through Moonshine Rd to Remutaka Rail Trail. Onto a mountain bike and through the mountains to Wairarapa (Cross Creek, Featherston) then direct to Lake Wairarapa. Kayaking again (as long as the wind isn’t up) to Lake Domain Reserve. Back on her road bike powering through Martinborough and on towards Tora. Once the metal road kicks in Lucy will don her running shoes for the last several kms and the eastern edge of the North Island. Wowsa!!!

Ngā mihi nui (huge thanks) to Lucy’s main event mentor Mario Gude for amazing inspiration, wisdom and encouragement to date. I’m sure more is to come!!!

You’re welcome to help Lucy with this event directly if you’re in Wellington at that time - join her for a leg, be a driver or or other en route support or pass her story on to others you know who’s love to add their encouragement 🙏🏼

Thank you very very much for your interest and generosity in donating to inspire Lucy and bring her Canadian Snowboarding Internship that bit closer to reality 🙏🏼♥️🤩
