I am taking up a three month voluntary position in the Solomon Islands in early 2017, to help set up a Radio Station in Honiara.
This will be an amazing opportunity for me to develop professionally, creatively, and cross-culturally. Arrangements are being made. It's a done deal.
This opportunity has been given to me by the excellent folk at VSA (Volunteer Service Abroad)
This assignment requires me to configure and teach radio automation software at a fledgling radio station. There is also scope for me to develop other essential radio processes and systems, and help professionalise the operation generally. I hope to pass many of the skills I have gained in New Zealand on to my partner organisation. I am looking to bring about positive, sustainable change during my time there.
Radio is still a very important form of communication in the Solomon Islands. It is widely accessible (unlike the internet in many places) and socially important, in that it connects people locally and culturally.
This is a dream come true for me, but dreams sometimes come at a cost. I'm asking for some assistance ($2500) to support me in this endeavour. Every little bit will help. Thank you!
