Help the Prisoner Correspondence Network send holiday cards to hundreds of prisoners in Aotearoa.
Nationwide
The Prisoner Correspondence Network is holding our eighth annual Holiday Card Drive! We’ll be sending holiday cards to hundreds of incarcerated people across Aotearoa. Christmas can be a very dark time in prison, and receiving a card can make a world of difference.
Producing and posting this many cards is costly. As a community-led, volunteer-run organisation, we rely on your support to get this important mahi done. We expect to send around 1,500 cards to 350 people in prison this year, with projected running costs of about $2,000. We'll also be supporting the efforts of community coordinators and volunteers all around the motu with financial assistance for venue hire and kai.
Here are a few of the thank you notes we received last year:
“Xmas can be challenging & it was this year for me. The loneliness birds were making their nest inside of me, but when I received some cards with my name on it, I really felt the Aroha.” —Allan
“I don’t have many people in my life and any that will have shown the time to even do a Xmas card or something like that. So thank you all very much, it did mean the world to get these cards with what was said in all of them and from me to all of you.” —Piripi
“This is the 1st greeting card in my last 4 years of prison time. So, I saved it as a valuable present. I appreciate her time and big heart to make an effort to write a card to an unknown person. He mīharo tana mahi!” —Seetha
Every card, dollar, and share makes a difference! Thank you for your support.
Printing and postage for hundreds of cards, and venue hire and food for community card-making bees.
