Christmas can be a dark time in prison. Our annual Holiday Card Drive can make a world of difference.
Auckland
The Prisoner Correspondence Network is holding our 9th annual Holiday Card Drive! We’ll be sending holiday cards to hundreds of incarcerated people across Aotearoa. Christmas can be a very dark time in prison, and receiving a card can make a world of difference.
Producing and posting this many cards is costly. As a community-led, volunteer-run organisation, we rely on your support to get this important mahi done. We plan to send around 2,500 cards to 400 people in prison, with projected running costs of about $2,000. We also support community coordinators and volunteers nationwide with their venue hire and kai costs.
Here's excerpts from some thank you notes we received in 2025:
Tahi:
Thank you for sending me the Christmas card, it was a beautiful surprise and yes it did put a smile on my face. It's the first Christmas card I have gotten.
Chazz:
Thank you for the warm words and encouragement you’ve given a stranger. All of you thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a beacon of light in a world of sometimes darkness.
George:
To PCN, I would like to thank all those for their caring, blessing, stay well, remembering for joyful season, fabulous holiday and don't give up Christmas cards. To have these meaningful words for this special time of the year keeps me wanting to keep on going and to stay positive.
We'll keep our website updated with information on participating. Please check it out.
Every card, dollar, and share makes a difference! Thanks for your support.
All funds will be put toward printing and posting cards, as well as the efforts of community coordinators all around the motu with financial assistance for venue hire and kai.
