Raising awareness for the aftermath of suicide
Otago
On or around 30 December 2025, Shane will begin an extraordinary journey walking the length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff one step at a time.
This walk isn’t about distance or endurance alone. It’s about creating awareness for the often-forgotten aftermath of suicide, the grief, shock, confusion, and long road faced by those left behind: partners, parents, children, friends, and whānau.
While much attention is rightly given to suicide prevention, far less is spoken about the ongoing support needed by the people who must keep living after loss. For many especially in rural communities, access to services, counselling and ongoing care can be limited or simply out of reach.
Through this journey Shane aims to start conversations, reduce stigma and raise vital funds to help provide practical support and services for those navigating life after suicide, with a strong focus on ensuring help reaches rural New Zealand, where support can be hardest to access.
Every step Shane takes is for someone who feels alone, unheard, or overwhelmed. Every donation helps ensure they don’t have to walk their journey alone.
Fundraising will help provide safe spaces for connection, professional counseling , informal coffee groups, grief education, and ongoing community support, ensuring no one has to navigate their loss alone.
