Finally the Restoration is Complete! It was certainly a big job and stands very tall, so will be easy to find now. Here’s hoping it stands another 150 years. Please make sure you visit if you are ever in Dunedin. Southern Cemetery, Catholic section. Many thanks Tania :)

Hi Sheehan Descendants! Just a brief update with photos. The marble has been cleaned and is now lovely and white. The broken cross has been pinned and put back together. Unfortunately the crane has not been able to get into the cemetery over winter - they have tried 3 times, but it is just too steep and slippery where our grave is located. The crane needs to lift and place all the heavy pieces of marble back together - it will be very impressive at its full height!!! They will wait until some good weather over summer and hope for hard ground. I guess Annie Sheehan has waited this long, a little longer won"t matter! Just wanted to let you all know I haven't run off with your kind donations! Tania :)

Well you've done it! Special thanks to Phil Sheehan and Rory Sheehan for rousing the troops. I have set the restorers to work and they are waiting for a spell of dry weather to get a crane into the cemetery. The cross has been pieced back together and cleaned, the crane needs to lift it into place. In true Sheehan spirit it's a hard one to achieve!! It's on the side of a steep hill overlooked by a large monument to Catholic bishops (hence the crane!!!). I will post some photos when I get them. I hope all descendants will get to visit Southern Cemetery in Dunedin one day :). Thank you Michael and Annie Sheehan for getting on those coffin ships and starting a new life in NZ. The Sheehan Nation is strong! Xx

  • REOPENING PAGE

      23 December 2016

Hi all Sheehans! With encouragement from Phil and Rory, I have decided to reopen this page to try and reach the target. Thanks to those who have already put hands in pockets to get this done. Work has started on the Restoration in Dunedin, and we have raised $1050.00 so far. We need to reach the target of $2000.00 to have it completed. NOW it is the time to chase up all those slackers you know that are related to you! Perfect timing as you will probably see the buggers over the holidays!! Donations can be made up until March 2017.

    Nollaig shona duit xxx Tania

    (Christmas happiness be with you),

Wow. I can't believe how generous you have all been so far! Only 2 days in and nearly a quarter of the way there. And its wonderful to see all the Sheehan's coming out of the woodwork! (FYI My Mum is Lilian, daughter of Pat, son of Patrick James, son of Michael and Annie Sheehan.)
