Shukuru's Village School Project

Shukuru came to New Zealand at age 23 but has never forgotten her village school. Everytime she visits the African village of Kelema she takes a suitcase with gear to give to pupils.Over the last few years she has become determined to do more .The schoolbuildings need repair and the toilet block has collapsed.

2019 has been a big year of fund raising particularly for the toilet block. Money was raised through two "Taste of Tanzania "dinners, the first in Macandrew Bay in June and the second in Portobello in September.These were supported by the Dunedin East Rotary Club and the local Otago Peninsula Community. Both events raised nearly $13,000 and the club gave another $3000.

This money was used to pay for building the toilet block which Shukuru supervised and to purchase an empty shipping container. This container is rapidly being filled with desks,tables,bikes,and stationary supplies for the school. It is also hoped to send some medical supplies for the local medical clinic.

The next step is to raise funds to send the container.We estimate this could be as much as$10,000
