Sienna Grace Kite

  • 2 weeks post op #3

      31 August 2015

Hi everyone :-) Leah here (Sienna's Mum). Sienna had her third operation In Dunedin on the 14th August, and I am pleased to say she is doing fantastic! It made such a huge difference, no more pain, no more infections, she can balance again, and she is back to her happy crazy cheerful self :-) We are away to Dunedin again in November for another post op check, and then preparation will begin for operation number 4 which is planned for early 2016. That one will be a big one, but it will be for the greater good for my precious wee girl <3 The road ahead is still long, but each day we wake up is a day I am blessed to have such a brave, courageous and beautiful little girl in my life. Thank you all for you donations to date, it is very much appreciated. Love to all Sienna's supporters and followers :-)

  • Operation number 3

      12 July 2015

Hi :-) Leah here (Sienna's mum) Sienna is now 19 months old and she has been trying to wear her boots and cuffs but they aren't working as we had expected :-( we did manage to find a pair of shoes that she will keep on and that are helping her to stand flat footed and she is now starting to walk along furniture or behind her walker, so it is progress!

Sienna also had a check up with her surgeons this Monday just gone (6th July 2015) and due to her test results, and the fact she is having balance issues and falling over if she stands up or even falling when she is crawling, or misjudging objects to climb up onto, they plan to operate again as soon as they can get theatre space, and organise her surgical and paediatric anaesthesia team, some time in the next ten weeks, so now we just have to wait for the phone call to confirm dates. She is currently on some pretty heavy pain medication (which isn't subsidised) to help her through until her next operation is complete. We are currently selling soaps and bath bombs to try and raise enough money to cover the cost of her meds and also her next operation (travel/accommodation etc)

Sienna is doing really well with her Makaton (sign language) and her cognitive/mental development and fine motor skills are at or above where they should be :-) she still only says a few words, mum, bath, up, yeah, nah and no more, but will sign for things she wants or needs #clevergirl

Sienna is still only eating mashed food, and relies heavily on formula but I am very pleased to announce she has FOUR teeth! (Almost miraculous for girls with OFDS1) and it appears she has a set of molars on the move too! #happydays

I will update more once she has had her next operation and let you all know how she is getting on. Thank you to all have donated so far, it is really very much appreciated. We still have a long way to go but Sienna takes it all in her stride with a smile on her face.

Love to all her supporters and followers <3

  • Lots to update!

      14 May 2015

(Leah here, Sienna's mum) Sienna is now 17 Months old! Her kidney scan results are back and everything looks normal with no abnormalities, huge relief! Repeat scan in 12 months time and Doctors will monitor her blood pressure as necessary. Her last two lots of test results haven't been as good as expected after her two operations last year, so her surgeons want to see her again in six weeks time (three months earlier than anticipated) to assess if they will operate again. Her boots and gator cuffs have arrived but aren't fitting correctly so have been returned for adjusting, I will be sure to post a picture when they come back and she has them on :-) I spoke with her Geneticist/Professor yesterday, and her DNA results are back from the lab in France, confirming her clinical diagnosis of OFDS1. Although having a confirmed diagnosis is a relief, it is also a bit scary, as her condition is so rare. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing medical team looking after her, including six specialists, and countless different Doctors and therapists. Keeping up with all the expenses associated with travelling, accomodation (Dunedin doesn't have a Ronald McDonald house) and other expenses specialised to Sienna's condition (ie Diet, Formula) is ever increasing, so every dollar donated makes a huge difference :-) a big thank you to all who have donated to date, it is very much appreciated! Love to all her followers and supporters :-)

  • Sienna's getting boots!!

      19 April 2015

(Leah here, Sienna's mum) Sienna has now had her first kidney scan and we are waiting on the results, it has been a couple weeks already so we are praying no news is good news?! After several check ups and tests, we are now waiting to hear from her surgeons regarding her next appointments, assessments and next operation(s). Sienna has also just been measured for boots, and "gator cuffs" so she will be able to stand properly and hopefully walk!! We still have a very long road ahead, with multiple operations, therapy and physio, tests and check ups. Any help we get we are extremely grateful for :-) Thank you to all who have donated to date, every dollar makes a huge difference, helping with travel, accommodation, and anything else that comes up for our precious wee girl xox
