A Journey of Music, Family, & Connections
Otara, Auckland
Respect, Diversity, Integrity, Compassion, and Humility – alongside Faith, Family, and Food – are just some of the values our group holds dear. These pillars ground our vision for SISTEMA Aotearoa Malaga Samoa 2025: an overseas excursion that will sustain the cultural, musical, and personal growth of our rangatahi.
The Malaga – meaning “journey” – is a development project where students are learning to dream big, set goals, and bring them to life through collaboration and community connection. It’s not just a trip – it’s a kaupapa to grow confidence, identity, and belonging.
For some, this will be their first time travelling overseas – but for all, it will be a return to ancestral homeland, with each student being of Samoan heritage.
The chance to visit Samoa – to share music, take part in cultural exchange, and connect with the wider Te Moana Nui a Kiwa community – will be deeply meaningful. This journey answers the dreams of our rangatahi and their families: to travel with purpose, experience new horizons, and grow together beyond the rehearsal room.
We’re grateful to Sistema Aotearoa, our families, and wider community who uplift our rangatahi. Your generosity helps make this Malaga possible – and ensures our young people carry their music, culture, and stories proudly wherever they go.
Ia manuia, faafetai tele lava – thank you for walking this journey with us.
The Sound of Social Change: unleashing the potential of tamariki, whānau and communities through orchestral music. Based in Ōtara, we are fully inclusive and free, developing social skills such as leadership, resilience & confidence with our 1200 tamariki.
Malaga Samoa 2025 is fully community driven, which means that costs are met through our own fundraising and the generosity of our wider village. Funds raised will be going towards flights, accommodation and transportation costs.

Tēnā koutou! Firstly, thank you again to everyone that has supported our kaupapa till now, we’re truly overwhelmed by the amount of aroha and generosity we’ve received from our whānau and wider community. Thank you for believing in our rangatahi and supporting their dream of sharing their talents with the beautiful communities in Samoa.
To ensure that our rangatahi are fully supported and that no one is left behind, we are extending the closing date for this page to 1 March 2026. With this extension, we hope to give our extended Sistema whanau the best possible chance to contribute, and to continue building momentum towards making this life-changing experience a reality for our young people.
