Some Normality for Nanette while she fights the "Big C"

  • A Thank You ...

      26 October 2021

It is with great sadness that our Nan's fight has come to an end. During the early hours of Tues 26th Oct, Nanette passed away peacefully with her beloved husband, her mum and her sister by her side.

On behalf of Nan and her family, thankyou for all of your well received words of encouragement and prayers and your generous donations. The funds raised will be passed on to Nan's family to assist with the next part of their journey.

Fly High our Beautiful Nan x

  • Donations for Nanette

      21 October 2021

    Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let everybody who has generously donated to this cause know that due to how unwell Nan has been and how difficult her situation has become she has asked me to deal with the financial side of the donations. As such the funds raised will be paid by Give A Little in to my Account and I will transfer them directly to Nan & her family. A screenshot of the transfer will follow.

    Thank you for your understanding

    Nicole

  • An Update

      19 October 2021

    Hello Everyone,

It has been a while between updates I know, but I was always told that if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all!!!

However, as I am not going to say all the colourful words I would like to say – I will just give you the news as I know it …..

Sadly Nan’s condition has been on the decline for a number of weeks recently, resulting in her spending three weeks as a guest @ Auckland Hospital, as she was in a lot of pain and they were no longer able to manage this at home. Her stay in hospital allowed the Medical team time to make some changes to her meds and to try what they could to alleviate the pain she has been experiencing. Whilst there, Nan – with her husband at her side, was informed that the Chemo & Radiation treatment had not been successful and the Cancer has spread everywhere now. All care moving forward is palliative and geared towards making Nan as comfortable as possible. She was released last Wednesday so she could go home and spend time with her loved ones and friends in a comfortable and familiar environment. When I spoke to her she did say she was missing the hospital food lol

A couple of weekends ago, the pain in Nan’s back became extremely intense and she was asked to go to hospital yesterday for an urgent MRI to see what was happening. Unfortunately this didn’t go as planned and the day turned out to be a day from hell for both Nanette and Andrew.

Nan was picked up by ambulance, however due to Covid, Andrew could not go in the ambulance with her so he followed in the car to Auckland Hospital as arranged. Upon arrival they were informed that the hospital had no information re the urgent MRI Nan was meant to have and so she was then told she needed to go to Middlemore Hospital. Once again back in the ambulance and off to Middlemore. On arrival @ Middlemore they were told that as it was only a referral, no appointment had been made and the only option they could offer was to have Nan to stay until one was available - but this wouldn’t be done within the next day or two or even longer. Naturally Nan did not want to stay in hospital, she just wanted to be with her family so they then had to figure out how to get back home.

Well somehow, through much pain etc Nan went home with Andrew in the car and then they had to somehow get her up the stairs and inside. Her husband Andrew, along with her sons Joshua & Riley and their family friend Dean somehow managed this at 10.30pm at night so needless to say we had one very tired and sore Nanette, a manoeuvre Nan would not be happy to go through again.

Nanette said the two lady ambulance staff were brilliant with her, going above and beyond their duty of care, She also had wonderful Triage staff at the hospital who were also good with her. Unfortunately because of the difficulty with Nan getting up and down their outside stairs she was confined to the house but they have had assistance to sort a ramp that will assist with getting Nan in and out with her wheelchair.

Nan did want to say she did have some laughs along the way as one of the doctor’s had his fly undone to the stage his shirt was actually coming through, however, somehow Nan managed to keep her thoughts to herself.

Below is a picture of the Ambulance that took Nan home last week – her son Riley pointed out the Number Plate and Nan promptly requested a photo 😊

That is all for now – keep our Nan in your thoughts and prayers as always friends !

    Hi People!

Firstly I wanted to say a H U G E thank you for all of your kind generosity you have all shown. It really is a testament to the gorgeous person Nan is. The messages of encouragement and love have had a positive effect on Nan’s mindset – definitely medicine for the soul 😊

So, just an update for you all .... unfortunately Nan has had a bad week with pain and swelling as a result of her current medication cocktail and has been admitted to hospital. It's not her favourite place to be as you can imagine, especially during this Pandemic because it means no visitors or contact with her loved ones except for her two support people - her mum & her husband. She is currently waiting on an MRI to give the doctors an idea of what might be going on and this should be today.

Continue to send her your love and positive vibes and hopefully she comes right and can go home to her family soon.

Take care & stay safe everyone x

As New Zealand went into Lockdown this week I had a feeling of nervousness as the butterflies took hold, knowing that despite the initial message saying it was for 7 days in Auckland & the Coromandel, 3 days for the rest on NZ I was fairly sure this could be extended. So if I was feeling like this, I can only imagine how our more vulnerable friends and whanau would take this news!

On the day of the Lockdown announcement Nan spent the day @ the hospital for her scheduled chemo infusion and whilst there she needed a Blood Transfusion as her Red Cell count was extremely low. Ever the Optimist Nan's comment was 'just another bump in the road'

In Nan's current condition she is vulnerable with her immunity at an all time low and so I guess what I want to say is "Please follow the rules, stay home, stick to your bubble, stay positive, tell your nearest and dearest that you love them & be safe!! By doing this we help our Nannie and others in a similar position"

Nanette you really are an inspiration to me, throughout this whole journey you have shown me every day that you can overcome anything if you just give it a go. 💕

I did not realise how hard mentally and financially this was going to get.

We decided to rent a wheel chair so she can get around outside as it was getting almost impossible to walk and a walker for around the house we will need other things soon and I want to reduce my hours so I can look after her.

Nanz a real trooper still trying to work (at home) but in so much discomfort to try make things seem as normal as possible.

The stage 4 triple negative breast cancer is spreading but we are still fighting. It's not over yet.

Love my wife, my best friend and my soul mate xxxxxxxxxx
