Fundraising 4 SPC Bots Team 3204 to represent NZ at VEX IQ Robotics World Championships April 2016 in Louisville,KY, USA. Help us get there.

Manawatu / Whanganui

We are VEX robotics and VEX IQ Team 3204, SPC Bots from St Peter's College Palmerston North, consisting of 42 members ranging from year 7 to year 13.

On the 12th of December 2015 we won the Excellence, Teamwork, and Design Awards at the VEX IQ National Championships which qualified 2 robots: Evaristus and Sixtus to compete at the VEX IQ World Championships held in Louisville, Kentucky, USA from April 20-23rd 2016.

Our team will take 2 robots and 6 students:

Julianna Victorio (11):

Hello there my name is Julianna and I am starting Year 7 this school year. I first got into robotics by joining a Year 6 Robotics Program at St. Peter's College. At first I thought that it would be hard but after a few sessions it was getting easier and easier. At the 2 day whole day Programme I realised that I was the only girl and it was very awkward but it was fun. One day at school a boy named Samuel who was in robotics with me told me that Mr Van Haren was asking for everyone who did the robotics session who is in St James(My school last year) and again I was the only girl out of 3 boys. When we got to St Peter’s College we found out that our team was going to compete in the robotics Regional and National Championships and we were at St Peter’s to build our robot and to practice. Robotics has showed me how robotics work and how to do coding so I really want to compete in the. Worlds so please help me by donating some money thank you and God bless.

John Hopcroft 11):

My name is John, I am an ordinary person, but my team and I are going to Kentucky, America for the world championship in Vex IQ robotics. But doing this isn’t going to be cheap and we NEED your help. There are 5 people in my team, three of us a going to Kentucky to represent our team. Those three a Siegfried one of the two drivers in our team, Charlie the builder and me John the programmer and driver in our team. At the start of this year we had practically no idea what we were doing and being in a new school didn’t make this any easier.

We had about 5 different designs to do the game Bankshot. We decided to stick with a launcher which in the end was the right choice winning us the excellence award, the highest award you can get.

Charlie Mollard (12):

When I was 11 years old I started attending St Peter's College in Palmerston North. At SPC Mr Van Haren introduced me to Vex Robotics, which is similar to Lego and I became quickly addicted!

In my team I build the robots with my friend Reuben, which we love doing. Sig and John drive the robot. Over the past year I've put in between 5 - 15 hours a week of my own time to work on our robot design. I probably have built 15 different robots. I finally found the perfect winning design - which I am still tweaking. This robot, Evaristus, won the Nationals' Excellence award in December 2015. Now we'd love you to help us get to the world champs. We are fundraising, saving, working, sausage sizzling and selling lollies!!!!! But every little bit you can give helps.

Thanks so much :) Charlie

Tim (12):

Siegfried (12):

When I was 3 years old I start playing Lego and I still play it.So in 2014 when I was in Hunterville school that's when I saw VEX IQ robots. A year later I when to St peter's College and joined SPC Bots.

Eugene (13):

Hello, my name is Eugene and I am a year 9 student (after holidays) at St.Peters College. Last year our team 3204S won the national championship (teamwork challenge) at Massey University.

I joined the robotics club at the start of last year and I really enjoy doing robotics, especially when I'm building the robot ,but there were also bad times, I remember once my teammates disassembled the robot that I took weeks to build without telling me. But at last we still make a good team.

Because our school won the national championship, we will be going to USA in April, but it costs about $5000 per student for flights, accommodation, food and other basics things. We are trying really hard to raise the funds so please help us, even $1.

St Peter's College, Palmerston North's involvement (page creator)

St Peter's College has had VEX Robotics teams since 2009 and VEX IQ teams since 2014.

Senior students have been able to incorporate robotics into their technology courses, while robotics classes are part of the curriculum for all year 7 and 8 students.

6 Students will travelling to the USA, visiting NASA and having lunch with an astronaut before they go on to Louisville for the World Championships.

The trip will cost about $4500 per student for flights, accommodation, food and transport to and from the venue.

Stephan van Haren, the teacher in charge of the St Peter's College VEX and VEX IQ robotics teams (3204), will be travelling to the USA with them
