Strathmore Park Community Centre Transformation

$7,855 of $10,000 goal
Given by 70 generous donors in around 4 months

Furniture to complete the community centre at the heart of Strathmore Park.

Strathmore Park, Wellington

In early 2022 the Strathmore Park Community Centre building closed for a major transformation. This is through a $2.1 million investment from Wellington City Council, in partnership with the Strathmore Park Community Centre Trust.

Our shabby old furniture & sound system are no longer fit for purpose. We're inviting the community to contribute to new furniture and fittings.

We’ve been on a great journey to get here. We’ve engaged local Māori on the building development and uses, and have been gifted a new name for the centre (to be announced soon).

Local artist Pokau Te Ahuru (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Atiawa, Ngāruahinerangi) is designing the dramatic external window shutters for the main hall. Pokau’s work is a collaboration with Etch Architecture and is the first major public artwork in Strathmore Park. The shutters will be visible to all passing the centre.

There will be a new clinic room, kitchen and outdoor area. The hall is moving to the front of the building and has a brand new sprung floor. A place for all, with community programmes, rooms for hire (at exceptionally good rates) and important services, you are invited to join us on the last push to get the centre ready for opening in early 2023.

Donations over $5 get a tax credit.

About us

We provide opportunities for the people of Strathmore Park to connect, grow and thrive. Our centres in Strathmore Avenue and Raukawa Street host events, activities and social services that enrich our community.

The Trust operates the centres, with WCC being the primary operational funder.

Revised goal because of we're almost there!  10 December 2022

We've sold mystery bags painted by rangatahi, received contributions from local businesses, had a movie fundraiser, sold many sausages outside Bunnings, and received many generous donations that don't appear on Givealittle.

Our Givealittle target is now revised to just over $10,000. That will bring us home to meeting our entire $20,000 fundraising target!
