Help Southern Ruahine Kiwi (SRK) return an iconic taonga to the Southern Ruahine forests after an absence of over 50 years.
Manawatū-Whanganui Region
Great news - Southern Ruahine Kiwi have an anonymous donor who will match the first $10,000 donated to through Give-a-little $ for $, helping them reach their target of $20,000 by 31st May 2026.
The Ruahine Ranges are a vital stronghold of native wildlife and hold deep significance for local communities. Once home to kiwi, these forests have been without them for more than 50 years due to predators that damaged the ecosystem.
SRK is leading a collaborative effort to bring kiwi back. Over 2,000 traps are already in place, reducing predator numbers and creating safer conditions for wildlife to thrive. Working alongside Save the Kiwi, SRK has developed a comprehensive pest control plan. Initial funding is secured, but long-term success depends on sustained support.
Your support can accelerate this transformation. By bridging the funding gap now, you’ll help maintain momentum, protect decades of conservation work, and ensure kiwi return to the Ruahine for generations to come. Together, we can make this vision a reality.
Environment Network Manawatū (ENM) connects and inspires communities for environmental action. We are the environment hub for the Manawatū region providing sector leadership, building capacity and capability, and creating community.
This campaign is for Southern Ruahine Kiwi to ramp up their trapping in the Ruahine Ranges above Sixtus Lodge the surrounding farmland.
