Raising funds for St Francis hospital Zambia as they grapple with extreme financial difficulties to mitigate morbidity & mortality
Auckland
My name is Ali, a medical intern completing my training at St Francis hospital, in a small rural community in Zambia. It became quickly evident that the hospital is undergoing severe limitations. Over the past 6 months the government has withdrawn funds and the hospital struggles to maintain supply of simple medical necessities including paper, gloves, antibiotics, simple pain relief, syringes and so much more. Many critically ill patients have had their surgical procedures cancelled simply due to the lack of gloves.
The hospital also lacks many simple lab tests and diagnostic tools, making diagnosis and treatment difficult. So far, during my short stay, there have been numerous preventable deaths.
I am reaching out to raise funds to support St Francis during this difficult time, hopefully help bridge the gap until a more sustainable financial situation is established and to help mitigate some human suffering.
Purchase simply medical supplies. If enough funds are raised more sustainable medical equipment will be purchased. All purchases will be made by myself and photos will be uploaded to ensure transparency with the use of funds.
