Help us to restore a beautiful part of Ponsonby’s streetscape and a centre of community and worship.
Auckland
Just three weeks before Christmas, on Saturday 5th of December 2020, a ‘suspicious’ fire struck the iconic St Stephens Ponsonby Church building on the corner of Jervois and Shelly Beach road. It appears to have started under the floor of the Shelley Beach facing nave and travelled up into the roof cavity where it has done the most damage. St Stephens are currently doing all they can to make the building safe.
St Stephen’s has been a community of worship for just under 150 years, where different social programs and forms of community have been found by many. The ever-growing St Stephens community continue to meet and are determined to restore this beauty and to continue serving the community as they have always done.
The idiosyncratic nature of the building and its materials means that extra financial support is needed to make it happen. Help us restore this building back to a state that can make everyone proud.
The Minister Rev. Grant Ridout has given permission to a local person to start this givealittle page to raise funds and awareness for a great cause. We believe that this ‘phoenix’ will rise from the ashes and grace the streets of Ponsonby with its beauty once again.

As yet the cost of restoration is unknown, all we do know is that it will be significant. Any donation towards this effort would be greatly appreciated by the St Stephen’s Ponsonby community.
