Standing Together with Ukrainians

$9,404 of $25,000 goal
Given by 71 generous donors in one year

Helping our Ukranian family and friends to survive.

Northwood, Christchurch

The war in Ukraine has devastated millions of lives and made millions of people homeless. We have 10 families who we are trying to help, with more people contacting us each day. These people are friends and friends of friends, mostly Mothers with children and elderly people. Some have now managed to get out of Ukraine others are still stuck there trying to get out. A friend in France who has offered a four bedroom home at no cost, and the small village in Bordeaux she is from have offered space for 600 Ukrainians, but we need to help get them there and we need to help them to survive while they are there.

Many are fleeing with the clothes on their back, young children at their side and very little money. They are exhausted, stressed and displaced, having to move to a place they don't know and where they don't speak the language. The French Village are amazing in their generosity, conversely the NZ Government have offered $2m, or 2 cents per Ukrainian person.

These people will need support and financial help until such time as they can either return home or re-establish themselves elsewhere. We would like to raise $25,000 to help these people and others with all funds raised going directly to help these people.

On our own we can only do so much so any assistance that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Help and Hope for our Ukrainian friends and their families  25 March 2022

So far, we've received an overwhelming support from New Zealanders, including friends, relatives, and coworkers. We appreciate your empathy and willingness to help people whose peaceful lives were disrupted by Russia's invasion. We have posted some photos of the people we're currently assisting, as well as the state of their homes. Our good friends in France have opened their doors to these people for as long as they need it, until the war is over or they can re-establish themselves elsewhere. That is not an easy thing to do after losing everything.

You and I are helping them in purchasing their weekly groceries, medications as needed, fuel, and other very basic things. All of this combined effort gives them a sense of certainty in the immediate future, and most importantly, it gives them mental comfort in knowing that they are not alone in this horror, that people are praying for them and supporting them.

Together we are making a bit of a difference. We thank you for that!

Please, please, share this page as much as you can.

P.S. Masha, a 21-year-old Leukemia survivor, is pictured above. She is from Bucha, a town on the outskirts of Kiev that has seen some of the most ferocious fighting in recent weeks. Bucha has now vanished, completely obliterated. Masha is currently staying with our friend in France with her mother and cousin. I'm now sending them your money every two weeks to help them buy groceries and petrol.

There is also a video here of what happened in Bucha, where they are currently unable to return, and no one knows whether they will be able to do so in the future.
