Trail Ride Coaching
7 February 2014Hi everyone, Thought I would give you a quick update on what I have been up to. The last weekend of Jan I found myself being a guest coach at Grenville's training days. This is the report I wrote for their newsletter. Bright and early on Saturday morning I found myself in the Drovers Caf? in Springfield meeting up with Grenville and some keen families ready for the days training up at the Mt Torlesse property. We began the day with a quick talk about bike gear, and then moved onto bike maintenance, setup and stance of a rider. After Grenville had checked the riders stance we sent them out to practise the standing up gattackh position. The rest of the morning was taken up with basic handling skills from full lock turns to skids and wheelies. Ifm pretty sure I got the fun end of the deal as I got to demonstrate all the techniques on Grenvillefs bike. The afternoon saw me back on my trials bike playing tail end Charlie as our group headed out on the track to put new found skills to the test and learn about hills. Some of the group dared to test out part of an endure loop. After we had tired ourselves out enough we headed back to base to pack up and go home. Day two, and a new group of riders to teach. Using the same format as the day before we ran over the basics helping the riders as we went. Once the group had the basics down we stepped it up a wee bit and threw a couple of logs at them to try. We were able to give two different views on how to tackle these with Grenville and myself having different riding backgrounds. The afternoon we headed off up the track, me with an extra fuel pack as I ran out the day beforec Grenville tested the boys with some hard hill climbs where they really had to be aggressive. And later on found some tight twisty turns and even some logs for them to try their new found skills. We worked our way back to base and headed off home just before the rain set in. I had a fantastic weekend, great people, lots of fun. I enjoyed everyone giving it a go and improving over the course of the day, becoming more confident in their riding. I was impressed. Thank you everyone for coming. I hope to see you all again in the future and in trials we say gKeep ya feet uph. Stef
