Our Givealittle page will be closing next week.

Thank you so much to everyone who as very kindly donated towards Reid for surgery and therapy.

With your help we have been able to book into an intensive therapy course at the NAPA centre which we are travelling to on the 15th Feb. We have also managed to secure a spot with the Walk this Way team from the UK when they are here in New Zealand in May.

We have raised around $25,000 so far which has been a gigantic help in accessing therapy for Reid. We have a few avenues we are currently pursuing for further funding along with many amazing people helping us with fundraising events.

Reid has been accepted for SDR at St Louis and we are on the cancellation list for this year, so if we get a call with a spot we can go – IF we have the money, which currently we are about $50,000 off being able to get there and have the surgery done.

Reid has now turned 4 and has made a lot of progress over the last few months with the warmer weather enabling us to get out and about more, our lovely neighbors let us use their pool so Reid is having lots of hydrotherapy and gaining so much confidence in the water – even kicking by himself pushing a floaty which definitely gives him a sense of independence.

So as we come to the end of our givealittle cause we will still be fundraising elsewhere and hopefully we will get to our goal so Reid can have the opportunity to have more normal movement in the future.

We have our website going www.stepsforreid.co.nz if you would like to donate or get in contact. We also have our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StepsforReid to keep you updated on progress.

We genuinely thank you from a place in our hearts for what you have helped us achieve.

    The Lovetts.

We are close to raising $10,000 so far through our givealittle page, direct bank account donations and selling of our eco friendly fundraising products!!

    THANK YOU!

We have had some wonderful donations from supporting businesses of goods to raffle off, and are so thankful for the support we have received so far.

We still have a long way to go to get to our goal to take Reid to America for his surgery and therapy. We would be grateful for any businesses wanting to get behind our cause (email stepsforreid@outlook.co.nz).

We personally have fun reusable bags, stainless steel straws, stainless steel pegs, wet bags, mesh produce bags and sets of silicone food covers for sale. All proceeds will go directly to Steps for Reid.

Please follow our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StepsforReid/ for updates and future raffles.

Reid also had a special visit from Batman!

Reid has been steadily making progress in his abilities recently; he has a new pair of splints (AFO ankle-foot orthosis) to try which seem to be giving him more support when standing (still assisted standing) and his therapists note how his confidence in general keeps improving. We have been watching so many before and after videos of kids that have had SDR surgery, wondering whether we are making the right decision but we know deep down that this is the right thing to do for Reid and his future.

We have a couple of fundraising events coming up so please share to anyone you know who would be interested in attending.

  • Thank you and a little bit about Reid

Thank you!!! Thank you all so much for you kind generosity so far, we really are starting to have real hope that we can provide Reid with the ongoing therapy he needs along with the surgery.

    A little bit about Reid:

Reid was a much awaited baby, after 3 years of trying to conceive he showed up and chose us to be his parents. Reid had a rocky start and was born at 28weeks (only 6 months gestation) Reid spent a couple of months in NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) on breathing assistance and getting all the medical help he needed. This was a very tough time for the family.

We found out early about his diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy which enabled us to start researching and learning therapy techniques from the start to give Reid the best shot utilizing as much brain power as possible in the early years.

Being thrown into the world of having a child with special needs has been challenging, but overall the ongoing experiences of not taking the small stuff for granted, celebrating every little milestone, cheering on all the correct physical movements they make and learning to have a whole new view of the world works has been incredible.

Reid never fails to make someone smile and his determination is inspiring, pushing through pain, pushing through frustration to gain confidence he didn’t know he has.

Thank you again for what you have done to help Reid xxxx
