Steve has been given a place for the 2018 New York Marathon now he needs some help to get there. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Auckland
In 2016 Steve suffered from an AVM (massive bleed on the brain) and was in life saving surgery for 6 hours. After just under a year in hospital he came home and since then has been on a very long journey of recovery. Steve has come a long way in the last 2 years and though progress is slow he faces each day with a smile.
Steve has always been a determined and adventurous man who went to the gym, mountain biked and was extremely active so being able to still particapate in events is important for him. So we applied to do the biggest event we know, the TCS New York Marathon, and we got a place!! Being able to participate in such a huge event would be an incredible accomplishment and no matter what i will get him there.
So long story short I am committed to getting him there and him doing something that he can look forward to, he always wanted to race in a large event as being part of them was his buzz. So now i need to make this happen for him and get him to New York for the marathon on November 4th 2018. We want to show that you can do anything no matter the circumstances and hope to inspire other athletes with brain trauma or stroke that they can do it!
I am his wife and best friend and what to ensure that Steve can achieve his dreams and reach his goals without his disabilities stopping him. He can do anything and like Walt Disney said “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”.
The money raised will help us to continue physio & his race chair and to assist us in getting Steve, & his team, to New York so he can participate in the Marathon itself. Any surplus will go to Achilles New Zealand.
