I would like to take this opportunity to thank two wonderful people who operated on my son Steve at St Andrews hospital in Brisbane on the 13th November. Dr Terry Coyne and Professor Peter Silburn - you and your team at St Andrews, have to be so very proud of yourselves for the amazingly successful operation which has given my darling son an opportunity to live a more normal life. You are truly wonderful and talented people and myself and my family will be eternally grateful for the care you took with Stevie. We will never be able to thank you enough! Kindest Regards, Jan Smith, Tauranga, New Zealand

Hi everyone, just to let you know that Steve's operation was an absolute success done in textbook fashion by what can only be described an incredible surgical and medical team. I spoke with Steve the day after the op and he was sitting up very happy eating anything he could get his hands on. He couldn't believe how normal he felt being able to smile on both sides of his face, grip his left hand, and move his left knee like normal. Wow, these Neurologist's are amazing! And if you can believe it, Steve is now home! That's 2 days earlier than the best case scenario....... mate, we're incredibly proud of you and your amazing effort. So happy for you. Thank you again for everyone's incredible generosity. The support has been welcomed no end and created an environment to help healing. Wow! That's all I can say now. Thank you. Glen

Fantastic result so far everyone, this is making a huge difference to Steve and his family from both a financial and support perspective. And to add to the amazing total, Steve and Lisa's childcare centre have generously donated free childcare for Steve's recovery. Good on you Grasshoppers in Redland Bay, you're awesome!

New photo just posted - Steve checked in at Saint Andrews Hospital yesterday and will undergo MRI and CT scans to map his brain (probably more technical than that!) before going in tomorrow morning (Thurs) at 730 am for the first operation of the day. This will be for about 6 hours and then he goes to the ICU until Friday 1pm. Good luck bro.

From Steve's amazing wife Lisa: After two and half years I still get very sad when talking about Steve and Parkinson's. I think in this time we have gone through all emotions twice over. We grieved and then picked ourselves up and I won't lie, on some days we continue to pick ourselves up. On the 18th November I turn 39 and I know what will mark this particular birthday is Steve returning home after undergoing Deep Brain Surgery to manage and slow the progression of Parkinson's, although if you are having a conversation with Jesse our 4 year old he will tell you this is the day dad comes home with his new robot parts'. Thank you so much - I cannot believe the support we have received, the kindness you have all shown has been amazing. It has been a rough couple of years, Parkinson's effects people in different ways. For Steve he lost movement in his face his speech became quiet and when he is tired he finds it difficult to get the words out, his left leg drags, his left hand does not freely move, so a task that you and I do easily like doing up the buttons on his work shirt takes him so much concentration and effort. He manages these symptoms with a blend of drugs. He has tried a few different blends and has to work through the side effects. Some days I think Steve is unsure which is worse. But he does not want this to define him; he does not want his kids to see him give up even though some days he is entitled to it. So I can't wait until I pick him up on the 18 Th November with his new robot parts. Much love Lisa
