Stickers for Starship
Auckland
Help us bring smiles to Starship Hospital's little warriors! We're raising funds to replenish the sticker collection in Starship. These stickers, generously bought by the staff, bring comfort and joy to brave kids like Penny, who requires frequent monitoring or visits to the hospital.
Stickers can be a great source of comfort and a positive distraction for children.
They can reduce anxiety, make medical experiences less intimidating, and provide a sense of achievement or reward. Plus, they can create a sense of normalcy and help children and their families reflect on and talk about their experiences.
Penelope's journey has been remarkable since her early days. In 2021, during her 12-week scan, minor abnormalities were noted, but it wasn't until the 20-week scan that a serious concern arose about her heart's position. Shortly after, Donna and Ange found themselves at Auckland's Maternal Fetal Medicine, where Penelope was diagnosed with bronchopulmonary sequestration and an unidentified cyst. Penelope's first encounter with Starship Hospital happened before she was born. At 10 minutes old she had her first X-ray, followed by an ultrasound at two days old and a fluoroscopy at four days old. Since then, they've been on a path of regular monitoring and care through Starship's exceptional services. Penelope's story is one of resilience and strength, supported by a dedicated medical team.
My daughter is under the care of Starship Hospital.

We did it! We raised enough money to buy 44,040 stickers (I brought the warehouse out of stock in two stores), 18 reading books in English and Maori, 15 coloring and sticker books, 16 sticker activity books and 56 sticker sheet activity pages!
Today, after two of our appointments. Our wee family when and deliver the stickers to Radiology and to the emergency department, they were ecstatic.
