St John in fundraising for a new ambulance station for St John in Haast. Your donation is gratefully accepted.
West Coast
St John is fundraising for a new ambulance station in Haast. We need the support of the community.
The situation in Haast is no longer tenable. St John volunteers operate from a substandard facility well away from Haast township. This is a busy part of the region; State Highway 6, running through the township and along the West Coast, is busy, especially come summer.
As a leading community and health organisation, St John believes it has a duty of care to the community and to the volunteers who give so much of their time to looking after and caring for their community, and the many visitors who come to this part of the South Island each year.
We have been working with the local St John people to find a suitable workable solution to this situation for some time. This has included a well-attended public meeting in Haast in August 2016, where there was strong support from the community for our proposed course of action. St John believes it has found a suitable building within Haast township which, following some work, will be a good facility for St John to operate from.
We need to raise around $362,000 for this new building. This is the cost of the building as well as some remedial earthquake strengthening and other work.
So far, St John has raised over $248,000 from within our organisation. We're now looking at other options, including support from the community. This includes the community outside of the West Coast - many tourists (both local as well as international) travel through this fantastic part of the country.
Please donate to our campaign for a new station in Haast.
My name is Ian Henderson, and I am an Area Committee Relationship Manager for St John.

Funds raised will go towards the purchase and renovation of a building in Haast so it can be used as an ambulance station in Haast.
Fundraising continuing 10 July 2017
Many thanks to those generous people who have donated to this cause so far. The initial fundraising drive closed at the end of June 2017. St John is re-starting the fundraising again as we are still raising funds for the station.
St John groups from across the South Island have contributed $248,000 to the fundraising efforts, and the community has been exceptionally generous, donating $20,000. We still need to fundraise $94,000.
Many thanks to you for your generosity and support of our project in Haast. Regards, St John.
