Glad your surgery is over and your recovery was quick, Merry Christmas. Can you please provide an update of how much has been donated to Endo Warriors. Look forward to your response.

Sinead

I prefer not to disclose. But can assure money was donated!

Hi Sinead. I hope you are well and I hope that your surgery on the 5th of November went well. I have a friend of mine who is going through an extremely similar situation to you, where the NZ public health system has declined her surgery for Endometriosis, Adenomyosis and Ovarian Cysts which requires surgery and hysterectomy. She also has no choice now but to go private. My question to you - did you take any steps to get the surgery covered by the public health system? Would love to know if there was something you did that I could pass on to my friend who can't afford private surgery - but at the moment has no other option. I would really appreciate if you could reach out to me at simplykristy@hotmail.com. Thank you, Sinead. My well wishes to you, and I hope your recovery is going well!

Hi Sinead, with private hysterectomies costing $13k-$15k in NZ, I was just wondering what the remaining $15k+ is required for? All the best on your journey and please keep us updated once you’ve got a surgery date! <3

Hi there, I read Sinead's story in Stuff today. I have stage IV endometriosis, and since my diagnosis a few years ago, have researched the condition thoroughly, now moderate a support forum for endometriosis patients of over 30,000 members, and am passionate about helping others navigate their way to proper treatment of this condition. I was compelled to get in touch, as despite what Sinead's gynae has advised, a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis, and should not be recommended before first looking to proper excision surgery with an endometriosis expert. Endometriosis can persist post-hysterectomy as it generates it's own hormones to feed off. Opting for a hysterectomy at this age can also cause serious complications like osteoporosis. If Sinead would like to speak further about this, I'd be happy to, and also have contacts within the endo community in Auckland that can help her more than her (frankly misinformed) gynae has so far. I can be reached at rebeccahunter.nz@gmail.com

Kind regards and best wishes, Rebecca

Hi, I was lucky enough to have my hysterectomy last year through medical insurance after male doctors also fobbed me off with ‘period pain’ and ‘ovulation pain’ etc. It was the lady who performed my ultra sounds that told me something wasn’t right and to go private. I just wanted to say maybe just get some quotes, I stayed 4 nights in private hospital and my total cost was $13,000 (including surgery, specialists & anaesthetist etc.). Best of luck with your fundraising, can’t believe you have to do this in NZ! I hope you’re back to living life soon - it’ll be the best thing you can do xx

Sinead

Hi Claire!

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to (just figured out how to reply 🤦‍♀️)

The surgeon I was using if going private was between 24k-27k depending on findings. The rest was going to be used for loss of income when hubby took the time off! I hope this helps xx

Hi Emma just wanted to share with you this was the identical situation with me . It went on 4 years Auckland hospital. Then no one would do my hysterectomy. However if poor Sinead is going to go private I highly recommend Dr Michael Wyn Williams

He’s a highly skilled endo / hysterectomy surgeon & teaches a lot of other drs . Far more experienced & advanced as he has been in Queensland 19 years & came back in early 2019. Everything in Sineads story is me . Please feel free to contact me . Regards Candice
