Sunset Beach Port Waikato Erosion Control

Like many North Island West Coast beaches, Sunset Beach is experiencing significant erosion. While Waikato District Council and Waikato Regional Council are working with us on medium and long term plans, we need to provide some short term strategies. We have already lost half of the carpark, our community hall and had to move the surf lifesaving tower multiple times.

Currently, beach visitors are digging into the dunes, undermining the bank of the carpark and creating more slips/carpark loss. We'd like to create a barrier at the bottom of the carpark to stop people accessing them and causing more detriment to the car park.
