building a replica spitfire MK9 out of wood
Waikato, Taupo District
It always has been my lifelong dream to build a full scale replica Spitfire MK9.
I have been a wood worker, furniture maker for over 45 years, I understand wood.
My opportunity finally came with our first lookdown and all the tourists had disappeared. I am a fly fish and hunting guide by profession and rely on tourism for that matter.
I jokingly told my wife: Now all the tourists have gone I might as well build a spitfire.
“Go for it” was her answer.
Here I am already a few years in the process of building my full-scale replica spitfire MK9, out of wood like the Mosquito once was build.
If you want to see the process from the beginning, please go to my Facebook page: “Pegasus spitfire MK9” and follow my story.
As you can imagine this build is a long process and requires deep pockets and lots of patience.
I have a lot of the latter less of the first and I could use a bit of assistance there, to see my project finished, in the air and flying over New Zealand to show us kiwi the beauty and grace of a Spitfire.
The plane, together with the hurricane and of course other aircraft fought for our freedom in 1940-1945
on materials, like tailwheel, landing gear and cockpit furnishings.
