Please help a selfless nana and her grandchildren rebuild their lives after devastating fire destroyed their Matamata home
Matamata, Waikato
Kia Ora everyone,
We’re reaching out to our community asking for urgent support for my mother the absolute rock of our family, a selfless nana with 13 mokopuna, 4 of which are in her full time care.
She does all of this while living with MD and navigating life from a wheelchair.
Her home has always been a place of love, safety, warmth, and laughter for our whole whanau.
Tragically, on Friday her whole world was turned upside down after a devastating fire tore through her home in Matamata taking absolutely everything with it.
While we’re so grateful and blessed her and the kids made it out safely, they have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
My mum is an incredible woman, always putting others first. Now, she and the kids need our help to rebuild their lives from scratch. She is currently staying in a motel but it is incredibly expensive, her insurance cover is limited and we desperately need to find her a more sustainable living situation while the house is rebuilt.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade for their rapid response and incredible efforts on the night. We are also immensely grateful to the local community groups, organisations, and kind individuals who have already stepped up to offer immediate help and support during this difficult time. Your kindness has given us strength.
I’m Bernadette’s youngest son Niko
