We wanted to share an update on Ava's recent surgery and thank you for your continued support and prayers during this challenging time.

Ava’s 3 hour surgery was successful, she is in recovery up in Auckland and hopefully back to Palmerston North Hospital in the next few days. The team of doctors and surgeons had to take bone from her hip, along with donor bone, to use to repair her broken femur. They also used a plate and screws to hold everything together. Ava will be wheelchair-bound for the next 6–8 weeks once recovered from surgery, as she isn’t allowed to bear any weight during this time. Afterward, she will face another 6–12 months of recovery.

A biopsy was also done on the lesion, and we are anxiously awaiting the results, which should come back in about a week. We are holding onto hope and praying for a positive outcome.

Ava’s shown so much strength and resilience and we are so grateful for the love and kindness surrounding her. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she begins this journey of healing.

  • Update on Ava – Thank You for Your Incredible Support

      3 January 2025

Ava’s parents want to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shared Ava's story and donated to support Ava. The kind messages and generosity have overwhelmed her family, and they are touched by the outpouring of love and encouragement during this difficult time.

Ava is now home as she awaits her upcoming surgery at Starship hospital. During the procedure, doctors will perform a biopsy on the lesion and work to stabilise and begin the healing process for her broken femur using rods and plates. We are praying for positive results from the biopsy and a successful surgery.

For the next few days Ava is managing at home, but things are challenging. Due to her spica cast she can’t move through the house doorways. It takes two people to lift her due to the risk of her safety and weight and placement of the cast. Her family have set up a hospital bed and a private chair for her in the lounge, which has been a difficult adjustment for her. Despite the difficulties, Ava is showing incredible strength, and her parents Sam and Lance remain optimistic, believing in a clear biopsy result and a brighter future.

Thank you again for being part of this journey. Your support, whether through donations, messages, or sharing Ava's story, means the world to Avas family. Please continue to keep Ava in your thoughts and prayers as she prepares for her surgery.
