To support Bex, Jimmy, and their whānau as they face a rare cancer diagnosis, after years of selflessly helping others in their community.
Blenheim, Marlborough
Nearly a year ago, Jimmy lost his voice. At first, it didn’t seem serious — just something that would come right. But as the time went on, Bex encouraged him to get it checked. After several appointments, they received the news no family ever wants to hear.
Doctors discovered that his vocal cord was paralysed. A biopsy followed, and just a month ago, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer — Medullary Thyroid Cancer.
Since then, things have moved quickly. A full-body scan in Christchurch confirmed the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. Jimmy is currently in Nelson to remove his thyroid and lymph nodes. The road ahead is uncertain, and recovery will be a journey — but their spirits are strong.
Anyone who knows them knows they are always the first to put their hand up to help others. Whether it’s organising, fundraising, cooking, or simply showing up when someone’s in need — she has helped so many people across our community. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.
They remain incredibly positive for their tamariki, moko, and wider whānau — but they can’t do it alone.
This page has been set up to support Bex, Jimmy, and their beautiful family with whatever they need during this time. Whether it’s help covering bills, meals, or simply easing some of the pressure so they can focus on what matters most — being together.
If you can give, even just a little, it would mean the world. Let’s rally behind this amazing family and remind them just how loved and supported they are.
