Please tautoko Kezia Whakamoe in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle devastating destruction.
Waiohiki, Hawke's Bay
On the morning of Tuesday 14th of February 2023, like so many in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle, Kezia and her son Israel' lives were changed irreversibly.
Escaping their whare with the clothes they had with them, they watched as the Tūtaekurī awa descended upon and consumed the Waiohiki settlement they had called home for the last few years.
While not alone in this absolute devastating disaster, this is a call , tono , karanga to all that know and love Kezia or just have a good heart to please help my sister and nephew as they look to the long road of recovery.
Kezia is a hugely important Māori artist, even more important as Wahine Māori she continues to share her hugely impactful and critical works and whakaaro through many mediums but all for the purpose of Rongoa to our Ao.
A fiercely loyal, kind and generous Māmā, Kōtiro , Tuahine me hoa, if there ever was a time to return her Aroha it is now.
It must be mentioned, this is not the first time she has lost her whare , when 16 years ago she had a house fire that then too, took her worldly belongings out.
Any koha is not too big or too small. Every dollar will go towards Kezia and Israel to help them get back on their feet.
As requested by Give a little , Kezia was not insured and thus every dollars counts.
Ngā mihi nā,
Iraia
I am Kezias tungāne - her youngest brother Iraia, and as such we are very close in each others world.
All proceeds will go toward getting Kezia and Israel back on their feet, including personal belongings, vehicles, whare and the basics for quality of life.
WE MADE IT TOGETHER 16 March 2023
Izzy and I wish to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for contributing to the next stages of our lives. I am moved beyond words by the compassion, kindness and strength I have witnessed rising in the wake of this displacement. Many thousands of us have been effected in multiple ways and I want to acknowledge that we US are all going through this together - though it may feel alone some days.
Our scars are the strong parts of our skin, emergency can become emergence no matter how deep the wound. These times are food for transformation because our human spirits rise stronger together when we are broken together. I am just so grateful to every single one of you xxx TUTIRA MAI NGĀ IWI xxx
