4-month-old Layla has been diagnosed with Leukemia, with a long journey ahead. All prayers & donations are very much appreciated, thank you!
Wellington
On March 5th 2025, sweet little 4 month old Layla was sadly diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). Layla is being well cared for by a fantastic team of doctors and nurses at Chch hospital and is absolutely gaining the biggest fan club with her bright curious eyes and adorable smiles.
Her & her Mum (Ashleigh) were transferred from Wellington to Christchurch, where they will be for the near future as Layla starts her treatment. Unfortunately, Layla's big sister (Bailey) and Dad (Jordan) couldn't join the other half of their family in Chch in the initial days after her diagnosis and transfer, but will be flying down as soon as they can.
The treatment journey is a significant one and there is much uncertainty in what the next few months is going to hold for the family. There is a long road ahead and being away from their home in Wellington is going to present a significant challenge as Jordan will need to return to work. The aim of this GiveALittle page is to ease some of the burden of daily expenses so that Ashleigh, Jordan & Bailey can focus on supporting Layla to get well again.
Thank you for also for all the prayer support for the family; it has made the biggest difference in these early days and will continue to provide comfort and hope in the days to come.
If you are able, please consider donating blood or plasma - these life saving resources will be able to help Layla and many others who need them.
Thank you so much.
I am Layla's aunt (Ashleigh's sister).
The funds raised for The Slaughter family will be used to cover daily expenses (mortgage, bills, etc) while extended periods of time will need to be taken off work to be able to support Layla having treatment away from home.
2026- new challenges 19 February 2026
It's been a while since I updated on here. Layla is doing well and after a quiet Christmas and New years life started getting back to our 'new normal' with Layla on maintenance therapy now. She has oral chemo each day and has intrathecal chemo every 3 months for the first 6months of maintenance. She is doing well and loving being around her sister, chasing her around. She's almost walking too which is lovely to see her meeting milestones now.
Then last Sunday we lost part of our roof in the storm that came through Wellington. We are in emergency accomodation as our house is now uninhabitable due to the roof section missing being right above our bedrooms and rain has already got in.
Assessors have said it'll be 6-8weks to repair. We have to get our stuff out and we now face finding somewhere temporary to stay for the next couple months while they repair our house.
Life just keeps throwing challenges our way that's for sure but we are thankful we are safe and all together still.
Love the Slaughters xx
