Support for Lorraine's Cancer Journey

Raising money for unfunded medication, and future treatment/drug costs to help Mum fight cancer (Avastin alone is estimated at $50 000)

Nationwide

Our precious mother, Lorraine (a non-smoker), has been bravely facing Stage 4 lung cancer since Oct 2019.

Thankfully testing showed her cancer would respond to targeted therapies which they have so far self-funded, alongside paying for many thousands of dollars of cancer-related costs.

We are now at a crossroads in Mum’s treatment and her oncologist has recommended adding a new drug Avastin. If it works well, he suggests it may extend her life by several years.

Sadly, Avastin is not funded in NZ for lung cancer. The projected amount needed is $50K for Avastin & admin costs alone.

Mum & Clive’s health insurance hasn’t covered a lot of costs to date. They’ve exhausted their savings & don’t have the finances to cover the next phase of treatment. Clive’s ability to work is currently limited as he takes time off to support Mum.

They are now living week to week and the costs ahead are enormous.

Clive & Mum have chosen to live their lives in service to others, often at a cost. They are the very best of people & are so deserving of our support. Our Mum is the most incredible person & our family, including her grandchildren, want her in our lives for as long as possible.

We’re aware of many people who want to help, so we’re asking friends & family to consider donating to this fund. This will be to cover the cost of Avastin but we hope to raise enough to keep some in reserve for future treatments. If you’re unable to donate, they would value your continued prayers for them.

Message of HUGE thanks from Clive and Mum  26 March 2025

We’re so very grateful to be able to update you that between Givealittle donations and some gifts given directly to us we have now exceeded our target amount of $50K. This has enabled us to cover Lorraine’s immediate treatment costs as well as some living costs for me as I take time off work to support Lorraine while she is having her treatments, tests & other related appointments.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone for your kindness to us in helping to relieve what was a huge financial burden. We feel so humbled, grateful & blessed. Thank you!

Any further donations through Givealittle will be set aside for other treatments & tests (and their associated costs) Lorraine will need in the future.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
