Please help support Maverick and his family, while he's is in Starship Hospital and navigating unexpected and urgent brain surgery.

Bay Of Plenty

Maverick is an amazing and fun-loving 9 year old boy. He started getting seizures at school last week (5 March) and was quickly rushed by ambulance to Tauranga Hospital.

After further investigation, doctors discovered that he had a brain bleed. Maverick was then flown by helicopter to Starship Hospital. He's received surgery and has been in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) the last couple of days.

There's potentially a long road of recovery ahead for the family, as they seek to understand what the long-term effects will be and continue to provide the best care for Maverick.

Any help would mean the world to Maverick and his family. Your support will help relieve some of the financial stress during an incredibly challenging time for their family.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

Update on Maverick  16 March 2026

Thank you for the amazing support that everyone has given Maverick and his family over the past 10 days, financially, in prayer and a multitude of other ways. It is very much appreciated and has helped to lessen the burden during this stressful time.

Now to bring you up to speed on Maverick. He's still in Starship Hospital, Auckland, receiving incredible care. After being in the Intensive Care Unit, he's now in a neurological ward and currently we're waiting to hear when he can have an MRI scan to find the underlying issue.

Maverick is fighting really hard, sleeping quite a lot and communicating a little while he's awake.

The nurses at Starship made this really cool poster with his name for over his bed. We thought we would share it with you.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
