Help needed to fund stage 4 cancer treatment drugs.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Hi, my name is Scott Keir. I'm 52yrs old and live in Christchurch, New Zealand. Recently I was diagnosed with Melanoma cancer that quickly metastasized to stage 4 in my Liver and Brain.
I am humbly reaching out to friends, family and the community for crucial support to continue treatment that remains unfunded in NZ.
My Cancer Journey
My journey began mid 2024 when a mole on my head tested positive for melanoma. Then a CT scan for Crohns revealed the cancer had spread to my Liver.
I then had bowel resection surgery in order to put myself in surgical remission to be able to receive Immunotherapy for the cancer.
However, after two infusions I developed neurological symptoms of weakness on the left side of my body. A CT scan showed 3 new tumors in my brain, the largest causing brain oedema resulting in hemiparesis (partial paralysis).
Due to this progression the treatment was stopped.
My options left are a drug combination of Dabrafenib/Trametinib. These aren't funded in NZ and cost me $5525 for a 30 day supply. I have managed to fund enough in order to establish that these drugs are working for me and have significantly shrunk the brain and body tumors but it is an unsustainable cost for me.
I am deeply humbled by having to ask for help maintaining funding for my treatment, any contribution helps regardless of size. For those who aren't able to help financially please help by sharing my story to as many people as possible.
Any donations will be spent going towards funding the next script (30 days worth) of Dabrafenib and Trametinib. This effective drug combination is currently not funded or subsidized by Pharmac in NZ .
