Canterbury
The RSV virus has hit the Canterbury community really hard. Ella, Brad and their children Felicity, Noah, Braxton, Finnley & Greyson are a family that attends our centre - Brynley Street Nursery & Preschool. Newborn Greyson who is four weeks old is so unwell with RSV that he has been fighting for his life! Ella & Brad nearly lost Greyson four times while he was in Christchurch Hospital. After he went into cardiac arrest and his lungs collapsed, he was flown to Auckland Starship Hospital. Ella and Brad are up there with him now and the other children are being cared for by various people. Their family friend Anne is taking care of Braxton and Finnley at her house over the other side of town. Noah is at his Grandad's and Felicity is staying with a school friend. Anne has been supporting Ella over the past few months, but is finding it very hard to have the boys full time. Greyson was in a coma, but is now awake and breathing on his own. They have taken out his breathing tube and one of his four iv tubes. He still needs oxygen when he has his coughing fits, but hopefully he is over the worst of it now. Greyson may be in Starship for at the very least another couple of weeks.
