They serve you every day - support low paid hospitality workers fighting for a better deal.

Auckland

Unite Union represents thousands of low paid hospitality workers - in Fast Foods, cinemas, casinos, hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes across Aotearoa. Sometimes they have take industrial action, usually strikes to get their employers to offer a better deal.

The burden of progress often falls on a few at the start. Unite union members have taken strike action that has later benefitted all workers - ending zero hour contracts, stopping youth rates, raising the minimum wage and getting the living wage for essential workers.

They lose wages when they strike and, as many of them live payday to payday this can cause much hardship for them. Donations will be spent on support for striking Unite Union members facing financial hardship as a direct result of taking industrial action.

Use of funds

The union bargaining team involved will make a recommendation to the Unite Union National Secretary and President to authorise payments - which may be spread across all affected members or to some of those affected that face specific individual hardship.
