HELP JASON FUND HIS LIFE SAVING TREATMENT OVERSEAS TO BEAT MULTIPLE MYELOMA

Auckland

I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this but my husband Jason is fighting for his life and can’t wait anymore. In 2020 he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable but treatable blood cancer.

Due to lack of funding NZ has fallen well behind in the treatment of blood cancers. Cancers with solid tumours can have surgery but blood cancer is totally dependent on medicines. As the cancer relapses a new drug combination needs to be introduced and NZ is very limited.

After 3 years of partial remission following his first treatment the cancer started to relapse and in Sep24 he began a new treatment. We had hoped this would buy some time to wait for other options but unfortunately the numbers didn’t fall far enough and now the cancer numbers are climbing again and faster than before with no other options.

Car-T therapy is his best chance and it's not available without traveling overseas. This is a cutting edge treatment that re-engineers his own cells to destroy the cancer and can provide a complete remission for years while the world progresses with better options.

It's very expensive – as much as $380K plus travel costs. Please donate, every little bit helps, no matter how small.

He has the best support team - his wife (me) and our children (Jemma, Holly & Ruby) and some incredible friends. He wants to be with and support them as long as he possibly can and we don't want to have to live without him.

Please help save a wonderful man, husband, father, photographer and friend to many.

Use of funds

Car-T Therapy overseas not available in NZ. This target includes the cost of treatment and travel to destination - likely in China.

Post Shanghai update   21 October 2025

Jason’s cancer numbers are continuing to fall so the CAR T cells are continuing to do their job, hopefully for many years to come.

To wrap up our fundraising campaign, we're excited to highlight the website for Jason's Light+Shade exhibition: www.oxenhamphoto.com. With 112 images from 32 top New Zealand photojournalists, prints are available for purchase until the end of November, making for thoughtful birthday and Christmas presents.

Thank you for all the support as we couldn’t be in this position without each and every one of you.

Thanks Kris

I was very impressed with photos, and the concept behind the Light and Shade exhibition. A 'quid pro quo' approach to raising funds for his treatment. I wish Jason and his family all the best.
