Link, our little champ - update for Thurs 1st Oct
1 October 2026On Wed 30th Sept, brave Link had surgery under general anesthetic. They inserted a Hickman IV line into his chest and took bone marrow samples. While in surgery, his blood pressure rose dangerously and an artillery line was inserted for continuous monitoring of his BP once in ICU.
While in surgery, Vikki and Sam managed a walk through Hagley Park. It was a beautiful day but the reality of their new 'normal' meant it was incredibly difficult to watch other families with their babies. They both feel comforted by the care team, feelings of positive vibes from the coincidence of the connection with staff who have kids (and dog) with Link's names.
Later on Wed, Link underwent his first round of chemotherapy. Even through all the procedures and treatments, he smiles up at Mum and Dad, showing he's a strong little warrior. Vikki and Sam both witnessed some incredibly scary moments before morning came. Overnight, his eyes swelled and his stomach also. He struggled to keep his feed down and a nasal gastric tube was inserted to relieve some yuck in his tummy. By morning, the care team were pleased with his status. This afternoon, Link has had a lighter, second round of chemo.
All of this in the past two days, this kid is a champ!! Link will start collecting his beads, Olivia get smaller, matching ones too. Sam and Vikki are incredibly humbled by the generosity of so many, whether it be donating or simply writing a message of support. Please keep those good vibes heading their way.
