Support Vicki's recovery—stroke survivor & mum

$4,690 of $15,000 goal
Given by 52 generous donors in 25 days

This fundraiser is to help support Vicki as she recovers from a stroke

Auckland

Late last year, Vicki suffered an hemorrhagic thalamic stroke, just after both her parents passed away. This fundraiser is to help support Vicki by funding tasks she physically can't do and also, if possible, provide a temporary safety net while she continues her recovery and returns to the workforce.

To say Vicki is a survivor is an understatement. Anyone who knows her also knows that she is relentless in the face of adversity, always getting back up, fiercely holding onto a future for herself and her neurodivergent son. She is a cancer survivor. She is a mentor to many (particularly women) and someone who has always been there to support others.

No one is free from challenges in this life, but this last year has challenged even her determination.

After losing both her parents in quick succession, Vicki suffered a stroke. She relearned how to talk, walk, and her determined rehabilitation has meant regaining much of her independence. She is now able to care for herself and her son, but recovery from a stroke cannot be rushed.

After months of doing everything she could to keep going, Vicki has reached the point where her physical and financial reserves have been exhausted.

Significant work is still required to restore and maintain their family home, and many of the physical tasks required are beyond what she can safely do. Every bit of help means that Vicki can focus on recovery, looking after her son, and preparing to return to work.

I have known Vicki for over 7 years now! I first came to know her as an exceptional manager and then later as a good friend.

Use of funds

Funds raised will be spent on post-estate management which is not physically possible for Vicki (house maintenance, cleaning, etc) to make the home secure and suitable for herself and her son. Any additional funds will go towards utilities and groceries.

A little update — and a very big thank you  8 August 2026

Posted by: Vicki Conor

I just wanted to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has donated, shared my page, or sent me a message. I’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness people have shown me.

One of the things Rebecca has mentioned was the growing list of jobs around my home that I simply haven’t had the physical or financial capacity to deal with while recovering.

This week, one of those became rather urgent.

My gate has been getting progressively worse, and Usha worked out that she can escape. She’s very pleased with this discovery. I am considerably less so.

Usha was my mum’s dog, and after Mum died, she came to live with my son and me. She is incredibly special to both of us — one of those living, breathing connections to Mum that is impossible to put a value on. The thought of her getting out onto the road is terrifying.

Because of the money people have so generously donated, I can now get the gate repaired properly.

It might sound like a small thing, but this is exactly the kind of thing your support is making possible. It means I don’t have to choose between dealing with something that needs fixing and protecting the small financial buffer I’m trying desperately to preserve while I recover and find my way back to work.

So, truly, thank you.

You’re helping with far more than bills. You’re giving me some breathing room, and helping me look after my home, son, animals, and life I’ve been working so hard to hold together. ❤️
