To help an amazing young man who has recently experienced a life changing injury
Waikato
Thames High School student Keenan Alexander (17) suffered a serious spinal injury in a secondary school First XV rugby semi-final on Saturday 6th August. He was airlifted to Middlemore Hospital and now has been transferred to the Auckland Spinal Unit for several months of extensive rehabilitation.
Keenan is a young mans who enjoys the simple things in life - fishing, hunting, sports and hanging with friends and family. He has a great sense of humour and has a positive attitude to life and needs our help to ensure he can embrace every opportunity life has to offer.
Funds will be used for expenses such as accommodation for Keenan and family to allow Keenan to attend specialised outpatient rehabilitation once he is discharge and house/car modifications.
The "Support for Keenan Group" is a group of people from the Thames community who want to help raise money for Keenan and his family to support their rehabilitation journey
Progress 12 October 2016
Keenan is currently in full time rehabilitation at the Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation Unit. His parents Anna Pierik and Iain Alexander said " we are truly humbled by the community support. Keenan has his own Mt Everest to conquer. Day to day we see small gains, however progress is extremely slow, as with any spinal cord injury. Keenan has to learn things all over again. He has more finger dexterity and continues to work on strengthening this. His routine from here will be like a normal job of working extremely hard at his physiotherapy and Occupational therapy each day."
