My amazing fiancé Mark needs urgent back surgery and must have 3 months unpaid leave from work in order to successfully recover.
Auckland
Mark is my amazing fiancé, he is a great dad to his children and step dad to my grown children. He is a very hard worker and gives all he can in his job.
Unfortunately Mark has very recently been diagnosed with a bone growth that has fused itself to his spinal cord. This has caused him to suffer from weakness in his legs and a lack of coordination. It has impacted on his physical ability to do a lot of things. This must be surgically removed in the hope that it will prevent further physical deterioration for him. Without this surgery it is certain that he will become paralysed. With surgery he has a chance of being able to continue life as it is for him today. He is now on the urgent waiting list and will hopefully receive this much needed surgery within the next few weeks. The surgeon has informed Mark that his recovery time from this surgery will be nothing short of 3 months and that he will not be cleared to return to work for at least that length of time.
Due to the fact that this is a medical condition and not the result of an accident unfortunately Mark is not entitled to any ACC for the time he will be unable to work. Although he will be entitled to a benefit, the amount he will be entitled to does not even begin to cover essentials. I am hoping that with the generosity of others I can help Mark to be able to continue to meet his financial obligations and to be able to focus on his recovery rather than worrying about how the bills will be paid.
I am involved as I am Marks fiancé and I want to support him through this uncertain time. Emotionally, I will give him my all, but I am unable to ease the financial burden this places on him without the help and generosity of others. I want for him to be able to focus on his recovery so as he can hopefully get back to his life as he knows it today and to not have to see him struggle with the financial burden of being unable to work for the duration of his recovery.
