Right shoulder area injury, nerves damaged, chronic pain and much more. Please help me!

    Hi Everyone.

    Just a quick update.

My left wrist ACC claim was denied which was not a surprise, but at least I tried. Once I get the MRI or PET scan of my right side injury and know exactly what is going on I might consider surgery for my left wrist which a number of medical professionals have advised against. My experience with the medical system in this country doesn't make me eager to risk my life in their hands with surgery anyhow – if it is not life threatening I'll probably avoid it... but I'll decide that when the time comes.

Things are moving forward slowly with the specialist helping me – they are busy reading through my medical notes. I don't know if they will be able to make heads or tails from the notes because it is a reasonable volume filled with all sorts of nonsense. There are so many different labels on the same injury/injuries.

I am beginning to feel that a PET scan is more in line with what I want, I want maximum clarity on what the heck is out of place. Hopefully everything can be done on the public system. I want this done right.

  • Kiwisaver and Public Health System.

      24 November 2016

Lets quickly start with the Kiwisaver funding option:

I don't think or want to believe that I meet this criteria: Serious illness means an injury, illness or disability –

    (a) that means you are totally and permanently unable to work in a job suited to your experience, education, or training (or a combination of

    those things); or

    (b) that poses a serious and imminent risk of death.

As I mentioned in the previous update, I have spoken to people managing my Kiwisaver a number of times and I remember it didn't seem like an option but I could not remember all the reasons.

I am not sure I believe I am "permanently unable to work" as in I will never ever be able to work again... it might be true that I cannot work in my field. But there is no point following this further at the moment as I will now explain.

I have spoken to another specialist who told me there is a way to get this done through the public system at the hospital. I'll work with them to see how things work out. I have no idea why non of the other Drs or the Musculoskeletal specialist could tell me this. I also went to north shore hospital 6 times for another injury and they told me they cannot do MRI's there and I had to see a specialist for that and get an MRI. I also asked my previous Dr about getting an MRI and he told me to see a specialist - no one told me you could get it done through the hospital and from my own experience I didn't get much help at the hospitals.

I cannot wait to have nothing to do with ACC, the medical system and WINZ.

So please, no further donations at this stage - 2016.11.24

  • Hold on any further donations for the moment please.

    Hi everyone.

I have just received a message from my friend pointing out that you can use your Kiwisaver (retirement funds) in some circumstances. I have looked at this a few times in the past but I remember it did not look possible at the time – I was also looking at the option of using the small amount to start some king of business but they don't allow you to do anything like that, things are quite locked down. I am in the process of re-reading and formulating questions for them when I call them again to see if this could solve the funding problem.

    Cheers.

    Martin.

  • Right side ultrasound, left wrist, etc.

Hi Everyone, here's a general update on what has been happening.

Lets start with the ultrasound: I went for the ultrasound last week and unfortunately they could not see anything out of place with that type of scan. I was a bit disappointing because the ultrasound is not able to see underneath my scapula which is the primary area of concern in this case – the disappointment stems from the fact that I asked the referring Dr. and he said that it would be able to do that. The good news is that a future MRI would be limited to a smaller area around my right side scapular region.

Accountability and Transparency: Here is a link to the ultrasound invoice.

I will be making phone contact with another medical professional to discuss what the best options are from here and which specialists to see. Once that is done I will post an update on the new course of action. At this stage I feel it is logical to get the MRI done because something is out of place, it is not just pain or chronic pain with normal musculoskeletal functioning – but lets wait and see what he suggests.

Again, I just want to stress that I don't think there is going to be any solution like surgery to fix my right side injury, and I sure as heck would not trust the medical system not to screw me up more.

Left wrist overuse injury (not directly related to this fundraiser but still relevant): Things are very slowly moving forward with my left wrist overuse ACC claim, I still think getting coverage and or loss of income is a very low probability due to the mess of a case it is. I am currently waiting on my former employer to complete the 4 page document.

I would love to write more but I am too depressed and typing is not an activity that brings me copious amounts of joy or excitement – of all the things I can do on a computer typing is one of the least friendly to my health.

Thanks again to everyone who helped with the cost of the ultrasound

    Martin.

  • Ultrasound Funding Milestone Reached!

      5 November 2016

Good news everyone! I have raised enough funds for the ultrasound stage of my medical scans. A very big thank you to a donor who contributed a very large amount today and cleared the ultrasound target! God bless you all who have helped me so far. Lets see what the ultrasound brings up - hopefully enough to narrow things down for more powerful scans.

    Thank God!
