Raising money to support Alan James through his multiple myeloma treatment.
Auckland
In April 2025 Alan fell ill very suddenly and was diagnosed with stage 3 Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer). It was also discovered his kidneys were not working and he requires regular dialysis.
He has been extremely unwell due to these diagnoses and cannot carry on as before, he spends many hours at the hospital each week and can no longer work.
The drugs funded in New Zealand for this type of cancer are very old, and unfortunately did not work to treat Alan’s cancer. He is now seeking private treatment with newer drugs that will hopefully give him a better chance. These drugs are not funded and Alan and Michelle are having to pay for these out of pocket. They have been recommended Daratumumab, which is $51,000 for the first two months of treatment. Ongoing treatment will continue to be very expensive but at this point we have to see how the first two months go.
We have made this page in hopes of relieving some of the financial burden this treatment will place on Alan and his whānau. We are so grateful for any support that you are able to give.
Alan is my father-in-law.
Any funds raised will go towards Alan’s medical treatments and related costs.
