Supporting Ana

We met Ana when she moved to New Zealand with her family to pursue their dreams of having a more abundant life in January 2020. Ana quickly made herself at home in Palmerston North and started to make a difference in our team thanks to her positive disposition, leadership skills, experience, and knowledge. Ana looks after everyone – she is the go-to person for many of us. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the beginning of 2021 and, since then, she has been undergoing chemotherapy and coping with the side effects in an attempt to shrink the tumor.

After seven rounds of chemo, the worry is that the current drug combinations will no longer be effective, so she has been offered a treatment that is not currently funded by the NZ Health System - nab-paclitaxel plus Avastin (bevacizumab). The cost of this is around NZD4000 per month, a massive amount for Ana and her family.

The easiest thing we can all do for Ana and her family is to help contribute to the costs of this treatment. Money is a stress that is not necessary when there is enough to worry about already. Unfortunately, the costs associated with cancer can mount up and include emotional support; nutritional supplements; alternative health treatments, and many other factors such as loss of income.

Any financial support makes a difference and Ana has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from us so far.

Conocimos a Ana cuando llegó a vivir a Nueva Zelanda con su familia en enero de 2020 y rápidamente se convirtió en una más de nosotros en Palmerston North. Su actitud positiva, liderazgo, experiencia y conocimiento ha repercutido en nuestro equipo desde el principio y ha hecho de Ana la persona a la que acudimos muchos de nosotros cuando necesitamos consejo o guía. Desafortunadamente, Ana recibió un diagnóstico de cáncer de ovario a principios de 2021 y, desde entonces, ha estado sometida a quimioterapia y lidiando con los efectos secundarios en un intento por reducir el tumor.

Después de siete rondas de quimioterapia, es evidente que las combinaciones de medicamentos que han venido siendo usadas no serán suficientes, por lo que los médicos le han ofrecido a Ana un tratamiento que actualmente no está financiado por el sistema de salud de Nueva Zelanda. El costo de este tratamiento (nab-paclitaxel plus Avastin (bevacizumab) es de alrededor NZD4000 por mes, lo cual es una cantidad enorme para Ana y su familia.

Lo mejor que todos podemos hacer por Ana y su familia en estos momentos es ayudar con los costos de este tratamiento, para que el dinero no sea su preocupación principal, ya que tienen suficiente de qué preocuparse. Los costos asociados con el cáncer son altos e incluyen apoyo emocional, suplementos nutricionales, tratamientos de salud alternativos y muchos otros factores como la pérdida de ingresos.

Cualquier apoyo económico será de enorme ayuda y Ana estará siempre agradecida por la gran cantidad de amor y soporte que le brindemos.
