Support for Green Kambukoll
Mangonui, Northland
Our resident head Chef Green Kambukoll has been with our family at The Thai Mangonui for 15 years, dedicating his time to creating the authentic Thai food that is renowned in our little restaurant today. Hard working, loyal and humble, Green has been the genius behind the cuisine. Rarely taking a day off Green worked hard to support his family in Thailand from afar.
Last year Green was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The cancer progressed faster than doctors anticipated and is terminal. He has been given weeks, maybe months at most to live.
Green received this news as only Green could, accepting and calm without making any trouble for anybody.
Green’s dream was to gain residency and become a Kiwi. Two years ago Green applied for a $30,000 Work to Residency Visa. Shortly after, the Government scheme changed and an application only cost $800. Green applied, paid the $800, gained the Visa and remained $30,000 in debt.
The visa debt is frustrating, but it is not the reason why this page has been made. Because Green has been paying taxes in New Zealand for so many years he no longer qualifies for medical assistance in Thailand. Despite this major financial issue he is bravely flying home on a one-way ticket. Green wants to spend the last of his time on this earth with his family in Thailand.
We hope this page will help to alleviate some of the financial stress on Green and his family.
If you could help in any way, no matter how little or great, it would be immensely appreciated.
Green was a co-worker at the Thai restaurant in Mangonui with whom we developed a close friendship and later, our most valued employee upon taking over the business.
