Yay! Hudson’s cast went on this week, which means he’s finally home.
Hudson will be in a cast for roughly 6 weeks. Mobility is still very limited and lots of rest required, but nothing beats being home.
Hudson has been in for two more procedures this week to continue progress on closing up the wounds. This has to be done carefully to preserve the work of the fasciotomy and ensure the wounds are well healed before encasing them in a cast.
Hudson is getting his appetite back and starting to come off pain relief. He’s in good spirits!
Each procedure brings Hudson closer to a cast and coming home. For now, it is a matter of allowing the healing to happen at its own pace.
We were hoping Hudson would be getting his cast on this week, but his wounds are not fully closed yet. This means another week in hospital before the team takes another look. Fingers crossed a cast can go on next week so he can head home soon.
He also had his first trauma therapy session today. The support offered at Starship continues to be incredible.
Hudson still has smiles for everyone, giving a thumbs up before his third procedure. Being restricted to sitting or lying down is very hard, but he’s having many adventures exploring the halls and corridors of Starship and the hospital surrounds in the sunshine.
Hudson’s had skin grafts and the team are happy with how his bones have been stabilised. He will have another operation next week to seal everything up and put him into a cast.
Suzie made sure his birthday still felt special with cake, presents, balloons and lots of smiles, shared with Glen and Oscar.
Hudson is doing well and keeping the nurses entertained with a few cheeky tricks.
His right leg is broken in three places and the team have performed a fasciotomy to relieve swelling and protect the nerves.
Tomorrow is Hudson’s 3rd birthday but he’ll be heading in for another operation. Extra special celebrations will be had on Thursday instead!
