Supporting Ockie, Yolandi and Their Two Girls

  • Targeted therapy (Ramucirumab) not covered by insurance

We are so grateful for the continued love, prayers and support surrounding our family.

In my previous update, I shared that Ockie had started a new chemotherapy regimen together with a targeted therapy called Ramucirumab. He responded incredibly well. His side effects were minimal, his liver pain decreased significantly (at times completely gone), and his persistent cough stopped. Seeing him feel relief again has been such an answer to prayer.

Unfortunately, we have now been informed by Cancer Canopy Care that the two cycles of Ramucirumab (non-Pharmac funded) are not covered. The total cost for the two cycles is $15,055.80 ($7,527.90 per cycle).

This has been difficult news to process.

After much discussion and prayer, we have made the decision to pause the Ramucirumab treatment for now.

Thanks to the incredibly generous donations already raised, we are able to cover one cycle of the treatment already administered, and for that we are deeply thankful.

We want to sincerely thank every single person who has donated, prayed, sent messages, and supported us in any way. Your kindness is carrying us through this season more than you know.

We humbly ask that you please continue to keep Ockie in your prayers. Every donation, every message, and every prayer truly makes a difference.

    With heartfelt gratitude,

    Yolandi

We are so incredibly grateful and honestly overwhelmed by the love surrounding our family in this season.

To everyone who has donated, prayed, sent messages, or lifted us up to God — thank you. We see it. We feel it. And it is carrying us more than you know.

This cancer journey is not one we would have chosen, and there are days that feel heavy and uncertain. But even here, we are seeing the faithfulness of God. Your generosity and kindness are not just meeting practical needs — they are a reminder that the body of Christ is real, alive, and moving in love. You are helping lift financial pressure so we can focus on treatment, our family, and walking this road one step at a time. That is an incredible gift.

This past Wednesday he had his third round of the new chemo and targeted therapy, and we are so thankful that he is managing the side effects well so far. We truly see this as an answer to prayer. The girls also start back at school on Monday, which will bring some much-needed normality and routine to our home again. On top of that, Ockie’s mum is visiting from South Africa and will be with us until 28 February — it has been such a gift to have family close during this time.

We are holding onto God’s promises, especially:

"Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Thank you for standing with us in faith, love, and prayer. We are so grateful not to walk this road alone 🤍

    Kia ora whānau

Ockie, Yolandi and the girls continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to them. Every message, karakia/prayer, and donation is easing the burden of this cancer journey, and they truly see God providing through each of you.

Ockie had another chemo session last Wednesday and is doing really well. While his energy levels are still low, some of the tougher side effects, like nausea, have eased, which has been such an encouragement.

They are currently exploring hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber to help increase oxygen levels in the body. This can support healing, reduce inflammation, and help the body recover during treatment. This is still pending approval from his oncologist.

With God’s grace and blessing, the family is staying hopeful, leaning into faith, and cherishing the time they have together—making beautiful memories even in the midst of this journey. Thank you for being part of their story and for walking alongside them with such love and generosity.

    Kia ora

We wanted to share a brief update on how Ockie is doing.

Last Wednesday, Ockie had a new type of chemotherapy, and we’re thankful to say his body has handled it better than expected. So far there haven’t been any severe side effects, which feels like a real blessing after how unwell he was in hospital over Christmas. Seeing him stronger and more comfortable has been incredibly encouraging for the whole Theron whānau.

His next chemo session is planned for about a week from now, and treatment will continue every two weeks after that. There’s still a long road ahead, but this feels like a positive step forward.

As a whānau, they are trusting God, holding onto whakapono/faith, and taking things one day at a time. They are so grateful for the karakia/prayers, messages, and manaakitanga/generosity that continue to lift them up. Your support truly means more than you know. ❤️

Thank you for standing with this whānau.
