Please help John receive the vital surgery he needs to survive to see his grandson born.
Canterbury
In November 2016, John was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Type 4, an aggressive and terminal form of brain cancer. With surgery, radiation and chemo, he is one of the lucky 25% to survive this long, but the cancer has begun to progress aggressively. Neurosurgeons at Christchurch Hospital advised that the tumor was inoperable, but a second opinion from world renowned neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo, as well as third, fourth, and fifth opinions from other respected professionals in the field, have concluded that not only is surgery viable, but could extend John's life expectancy from a matter of weeks, to potentially years. If the team at Christchurch hospital refuses John this surgery, he has a window of days, a week at most, to have the surgery privately before the cancer has progressed too far.
In an unprecedented act of generosity, Dr Charlie Teo has offered to waive his fee and perform the surgery free of charge in Sydney, but the additional medical costs are expected to reach almost $100,000. My family and I have desperately tried to raise these funds, but have fallen far short, and with such a short window of opportunity, are reaching out to you, the public, in a last ditch attempt to save our father, grandfather, and brother.
John's son is expecting his fourth child in March next year, with this surgery not only can he live to be part of this family milestone, but can also spend much appreciated time with all of his family. We know so many of you out there have been touched by cancer, lost loved ones, or are still fighting the battle yourselves, so you know how valuable each day is. We are not asking for anything more than you can spare, even is it's only a few dollars, if enough people donate, it can make the world of difference not only to John, but to our entire family.
If we are able to raise enough funds to save John, every dollar this campaign recieves that exceeds John's medical costs will be donated to brain cancer research, to help those effected by this terrible disease in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and thank you in advance for your generosity, support, and your prayers.
John is my brother, the funds are for brain cancer related surgical costs.
To pay for brain surgery and associated medical costs. Additional funds will be donated to brain cancer research NZ. If the funds are raised but the surgery cannot go ahead, they will be used to make John comfortable in the little time he has left.
