Nau mai haere mai to the first Manawatū Summer Shakespeare crowdfunding campaign.
After 20 years Massey University made the difficult decision to stop funding Summer Shakespeare and the visiting artist scheme. As a result, the funding model for Manawatū Summer Shakespeare has changed dramatically. With the incredible support of council, local trusts and private sponsorship, we've managed to raise a substantial amount of our budget but still the show is on the edge of viability. We are here asking you, our whānau and friends to help us raise at least $10,000.
Creating a show that allows the audience to pay what they can, if they can, in an outdoor venue with 50 cast and crew costs a huge amount. Your donation will fund design delivery, lighting, costumes, set and sound so we can deliver the show our community deserves! We are the only summer Shakespeare in Aotearoa offering shows at no fixed ticket price because we believe Shakespeare is for everyone. We are determined to continue this kaupapa and keep our show accessible to all. That is why we are asking for your financial support this year.
We love making these shows for our community and we know our community loves these shows. The 2023 season of Romeo and Juliet was phenomenally attended, with crowds of more than 600 a night filling the Rose Garden in the Victoria Esplanade.
Help us reach our goal of at least $10,000 so the show can go on!
